Leather With Character

Character, you notice it immediately in our leathers. It’s in their natural grain and saturated colors, supple hand and durable life. Most of all, you notice it as the years pass and in the rich patina that comes through.

We’ve been making leathers traditionally since 1867. Originally from Toronto, Canada, today Wickett & Craig calls Curwensville, Pennsylvania home, making it one of only two remaining vegetable tanneries in the U.S.A. Located on more than 16 acres of land, the state-of-the-art facility produces 4,500,000 square feet of both light- and heavy-weight leathers annually. The former are used to craft luxury goods, like shoes, bags and belts, while the latter are used to make traditional equestrian gear, including saddles, bridles and straps.

A Traditional Method

It takes around six weeks for us at Wickett & Craig to transform a hide into leather. The vegetable tanning process is a masterful mix of tradition, skill and a few state-of-the-art upgrades. We source only the finest North American cattle and set about meticulously preparing them for the tanning, dyeing and finishing processes.

Esquivel x Florsheim

esquival-article

Past meets present in a new capsule collection by California-based footwear designer George Esquivel and Florsheim. Inspired by a pair of pebble leather Florsheim wingtips he found vintage shopping, Esquivel set about creating a collection of men’s and women’s shoes (crafted from Wickett & Craig leathers) that combine a fashion forward aesthetics with a heritage soul.

The Florsheim x Esquivel brogues are the kind of shoes that feel just right for now, but will also look better with age. That’s in large part to the traditional pebble leather, courtesy of Wickett & Craig. The textured leather not only molds to your feet, but over time develops a singular patina. Florsheim x Esquivel
